There is a copy of the picture of the 1912 bellringers in my family collection. My grandparents Alfred and Alice Murton lived at The Street, Thornham Magna. Grandad Alfred was born 1877 Eye, he unfortunately suffered from shell shock after WWI but lived until 1947. He also served in the Boer War. His wife Alice (nee Cattermole) was born at Wickham Skeith in 1879, and died in 1959. The gentleman on the left of the picture is my great-grandfather, George Murton b 1845 Yaxley, died 1931 Eye. Not only was he a bell ringer, he also worked for the firm of D. Day & Son, Church Bell Hangers, Eye. My aunt, Annie Murton died in 1996 age 90, was a schoolmistress, and my last link with Thornham Magna. I would be most interested to hear from anyone who can identify the other five bell ringers, or who may remember any members of my Murton family.
