Considering the amount of rain that was falling in other areas, we managed to complete our day in very pleasant conditions on a green that was given high praise by all members – well done again Laurie! And when I say all members, there were 30 full members taking part and another 10 non-players looking on – close to one of our best ever turn-outs!
We started as usual with a spider that was skilfully won by Peter Adams, then 3 games of 6 ends to determine the winner of the Shield and that was won by Philip Cutting – good old Phil!
As for the food – who on earth would want to go to the London Dorchester? When you can get a spread like we had!
As Trevor Moore has resigned as Club Competitions Secretary, David Canfer volunteered his services at the AGM and successfully ran the show on Sunday – so many thanks to David!
As soon as we shut shop and went home – down came the rain! How lucky can we get?
Then the weather turned for the worst and Monday’s game was called-off due to a waterlogged ground at Stowupland and the same happened on Wednesday when we were due to play St Botolphs at home.
We did however manage to get our Tuesday Afternoon fixture underway with the A team at home to Mendlesham and the B team away at Combs Ford in Stowmarket.
The A team managed to take all 7 points in surprisingly good conditions although the ground was very wet and heavy after persistent rain during the morning. The match was very close up to the 7th end when the scores were Colin’s rink up at 7-5 and my rink up at 6-5. Colin’s rink kept their lead and went on to win comfortably 21-10. My rink had more of a battle but with George and Brenda playing so well, we managed to hold on to win by 2 shots – I think that I helped once in the game! The B team weren’t so lucky by only taking 2 point in a game played in rain throughout the match. However, they only lost the match by 1 shots.
