NEWS & RESULTS – 2019 – Week 11 (1/7/19 to 7/7/19)

It was another sad day for the Monday 2Wood team, crashing out at the Rookery. I say “crashing out”, it was just the 1 rink that took the blow, that of Mads, Andie & Colin, going down 15 shots to 36. They did get 6 shots over the final 3 ends – to make it look better that 9-36!! Ivan, Mo & Kipp were 2 shots up but lost the last 3 ends to lose by 1 shot and Mike, David & Mel after a good start to be 8-1 up after 5 ends, lost their way in the middle of the game and lost by 5 shots. The point was won by Brenda, Phil & Laurie after a few nervous moments, especially at the 18th when they dropped a 4 to be just 1 shot in front, but they kept their cool and took 5 shots over the final 3 ends.

Better new from the Afternoon A team, desperate for points, beat Needham Market B. team 7-0. It was a rocky start for both rinks and together were soon 0-7 down, followed by another 4 against on the rink of Alan, Mel & Jan who were now 0-8 down at the 4th. They soon recovered and allowed their opponents only 3 more ends to win by 10 shots. Trisha, Graham & Colin had a closer game and almost lost it over the final stretch, but just held on to win by 3 shots.

It was another draw for the B. team at Gipping Valley and so close to winning over the final few ends. Mads, Paul & Glyn raced away and were 17-4 up at the 16th and then lost 6 shots over the remaining 3 ends. Phil, Ray & David struggled all the way and got stuck on 10 for 6 ends. Fortunately, they scored a 3 on the final end to make the match a draw.

David R, Glyn & Andie are currently in mourning after the dreadful loss by 2-28 on their rink at Haughley on Wednesday. I won’t dwell on it too much, as it must be extremely painful – and it took 2 ends to accumulate their 2 shots!!! As for the remaining rinks, they actually won by 9 shots. Trish, Ivan & David M led for most of the game, but dropped a 7 at the 13th and almost recovered – losing by just 1 shot! Brenda, Jan & Phil played catch-up for most of the game and they triumphed by scoring a 7 at the 14th, helping them to win by 2 shots. It was Alan, Trisha & Colin who were struggling at the start to go 1-7 down by the 4th, took command and never looked back for a convincing win by 8 shots.

1½ points at Gissing I suppose is not all bad? The 1 point coming from Mel H, Ann & David L, right on the last end, after being in the lead for best part of the game. The ½ point goes to Joy, Phil & Mel N. who had a mixed game and were 6 shots adrift at the 15th end, but staged a comeback by taking those 6 shots back over the final 4 ends. Brenda, Nije & Laurie took

the lead by 1 shot at the first end, then dropped an 8 at the 3rd and completely lost sight of their opponents for the rest of their game. In similar fashion, Mike, Mo & Kipp also took the lead on the first end and then just dragged their heels for the remaining 17 ends, picking up the odd shots on the way.
