About

Focussed on the neighbouring ‘twin’ villages of Thornham Magna and Thornham
Parva close to the Norfolk / Suffolk border, this site
has been created as a community website; run by the community for the benefit
of the community. We wanted to create a “community portal” where
Thornham villagers could create and edit their own content and
generally foster a community spirit outside of more traditional means. In many
respects, the motivation has come from trying to extend a welcoming and
inclusive hand to members of the community who perhaps don’t have the time or
inclination to take part in more traditional village gatherings. Wherever and
whenever you have web access you can contribute to, and learn from, your local community.

All visitors are of course welcome to browse our site but active
participation and contribution does require registration. This is designed to
stop spamming or malicious attack rather than exclude people and we strongly
encourage you to register with us  if you have any connection with our community;
whether it be as a resident, local event organiser, carer or whatever it
happens to be. Our intention is to be as inclusive as possible and open up participation
to anybody with an interest in our community.

Once you are a registered member of the site you will, amongst other things,
be able to:

  • Participate in discussions: from giving / receiving gardening tips through buying / selling / recycling to simply discussing hobbies with like minded people
  •  Contribute news items, event information and web links
  • Express opinions on village business / issues / ideas – planning, event proposals, parish matters etc
  • Recommend local services / businesses
  • Give voice to your favourite cause
  • Offer or ask for help / advice / lifts / information etc

The key feature of the site is that it is an ever changing reflection of the community and it is that concept that is its lifeblood. We rely on active participation and the more we all participate the more we all benefit so please do join us and make the site work for all of us.

If you’re interested in getting involved then contact us  with your name and brief explanation of your connection to the community (I live here, I work here, I care for people here, I run a local club etc)  along with any other comments / suggestions and we’ll assign you a user ID so that you can start getting involved.

If you are a local business you might to consider the benefits of advertising with us. Not only will you be getting inexpensive and targeted advertising you’ll also be supporting your local community.

Thanks for taking the time to visit the site and read this information, we
hope you got something from your visit and hope to see you again in the future.

Regards,

The Thornhams Web Team
