The Thornham Settled Estate has generously made available additional land to be used as a picnic and recreational area for the public, as the existing recreational area was taken up by the new playground equipment.

Thornham Magna Community Open Spaces would like to thank Councillor Charles Michell (1st person on the left hand side below), who has consistently supported the play project.  Cllr Michell was also a conduit for making available additional second-hand play equipment which was recycled and incorporated into the project plan.

We are grateful for his continued support and assistance, the latest of which is the award of a £250 grant from the locality fund to help pay towards the planning application.  We are looking to raise the remaining £85 - if anyone has ideas on how this could be funded, we welcome suggestions.

At a time when open spaces are under threat due to economic pressures, it is refreshing to know that support such as this exists and which shows the positive effect of councillors such as Charles Michell working at a grass roots level to meet the needs of the general public.

PLAYGROUND OPENING in THORNHAM MAGNA

Playground officially launched!

More than 100 excited children turned up on Wednesday 3rd August, National Playday, to join in celebrating the opening of the new playground in Thornham.  Amy and Maisie, whose names were 'drawn from a hat' by Walks manager Helen Sibley, cut the ribbon to officially open the play area, after a few words were said by Cllr Tim Passmore, Mid Suffolk DC; Mr John Cousins, Thornham Settled Estate; and Ms Marya Parker, The Big Lottery.

The play area also received much positive enthusiasm from parents and carers who were able to join in the celebrations as they ate strawberries and cream.

A few pictures of the event are shown here, but more can be seen on Thornham Walks Facebook  at http://www.facebook.com/media/albums/?id=179767328721430
