It’s been a couple of years since we’ve seen them around – red deer thatis (Cervus elaphus). Apparently they are the largest mammals inthe UK. This weekend we only sawfemales, munching the last vestiges of our poor asparagus crop, but previouslywe have seen some rather large stages. Apparentlythey wander around Suffolk … and seem to appear every few years on the ThornhamEstate. This photo was taken through thewindow around 7am. As soon as we headedoutside, they ran across the fields to the woods.
