Can you help? Beyond the Wall & the Thornham Walled Garden

Beyond the Wall is currently looking for volunteers to help us open the Thornham Walled Garden at weekends to the general public.

Initially we are looking for people who are available between March – September on Saturdays & Sundays between the hours of 12-4pm.

Volunteers would not be expected to know anything about gardening or the Beyond the Wall charity (although obviously this would be a bonus!), the main responsibility is just to be there on site.

It’s a pleasant place to read a book or just spend some time….

If you are willing to help out please contact Ben Hall for further details – This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 01379 783878.

On another note we are always on the look out for unwanted gardening tools if you have any which you don't need and which are still in working condition then please let me know.

Many Thanks

Thornham Litter pick up 18th March (10-12 ish)

Yes I know it's mothers day! but I have already sounded out the people who helped out last year and this seems a good date.

If anyone would like to help out clearing the litter around Thornham (which generally doesn't seem as bad as last year) then please let me know.

This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

It won't take more than 2 hours max in the morning. Coffee and cake will be supplied.

Thanks

Ben

Avian Pox in Thornham

Over the Christmas period we found a Great Tit struggling to stay in one of our bird-feeders whilst a male chaffinch tried to bully it – finally succeeding in pushing the bird over the edge.  The bird was curiously easy to pick up, and found to have a warty growth where its’ left eye should have been.  As the bird was ‘ringed’, we filled out an online report with the British Trust for Ornithology (www.bto.org) who run a ringing scheme, which generates information on the survival, productivity and movements of birds.  Unfortunately the bird died some hours later.
