Update on the future of Thornham Walks

Image
Dear Villagers, my article on the village website has thrown up further questions about the future of Thornham Walks. I would like to take this opportunity to clarify things.

Thornham Walks has secured enough funding for the present financial year, and has three quarters of the funding in place for the next financial year, (2011-2012). At our last Steering Group meeting a week ago it was agreed that the Walks would continue in its present format and I would use my time to secure as much funding for the Walks as possible. Although Mid Suffolk District Council will not be giving any financial support from April 2011 they are still very keen to remain involved with Thornham Walks and support us in other ways, such as, admin support, funding advice/guidance and budget/banking.

I would also like to take the opportunity to also clear up the confusion about what will happen if the worst came to the worst and John and I had to go. The estate has made it clear that Thornham Walks would not close and the amenities would still be here for everyone to use.

If we do submit the bid for play equipment and if we are successful, the insurance and maintenance would be the responsibility of the Walks, it would never fall to the Village to pick up the costs, no matter what happens in the future.

I do hope this as made things a little clearer and I am very confident that we can made Thornham Walks work, whether we are part of MSDC or as some other independent organisation.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to chat further.

On a separate note we still have about 5 places left on our fungi Day this Sunday, if any one is interested please give the office a ring or mail us.
The day runs from 10am – 4pm £20 per person concessions £15.
