PLayground at the Village Hall

Congratulations and thanks to all who made Saturday's playground building such a happy and productive day. Thanks to the labour, donations, kit and food, all supplied by villagers, much was achieved in a short space of time.

Special thanks go to Dave Mitchell of D.M. Tree Services for the donation  of a massive beech tree trunk and to Mike Gooderham for hauling it into place!!

Hope all the aching limbs have recovered!

Work In Progress

This is very much a work in progress, but welcome to the new improved www.thornhams.org. What you see currently is a first draft which should retain the bulk of the content from the old site. It's all built on the very latest version of Joomla and is several generations on from our old site which really was creaking on old bones. It was a rather tortuous upgrade unfortunately and has taken FAR longer than anticipated... hopefully it will be worth it.

You should now be able to login and add new content / comments - please do try out the new system and This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so that we can get the site working properly for us. Once we have the basics in place, we can start to add new functionality... suggestions very much welcomed.

One thing I would recommend is the use of Google Chrome as your default browser - when submitting conent it works much better than Firefox for example which can leave you in "dead ends".

Community Recycling Centres

From Roy Barker, Mid Suffolk DC portfolio holder for the environment.

The Brome and Bramford community recycling centres are being excellently run by Bolton Bros, who have now been operating for 3 months. The tonnage of recyclable*, which can be received ‘free of charge’ is slowly growing, but they still want more to offset the landfill element. They are recycling 91% and 97% which is very encouraging considering that previously the sites were 61% and 67% respectively.

The more we can encourage the public to use them the longer we will maintain these precious facilities on our doorsteps, thus saving the carbon footprint travelling to the next nearest facility, and  the cost to the council of clearing fly tips in our district countryside.

It is about ‘Use it or lose it’.  Please support the Bolton Bros in make these community recycling centres financially viable. Please spread the word that they are open and welcoming, and you might even find something useful for yourself from ‘the reuse stall’, which each site has!!

Yours Roy Barker.
