Distraction Burglaries - 10th August

Please be aware of five distraction burglary incidents that have occurred today Tuesday 10th August. The five incidents occurred in
 
Cavendish Way in Sudbury at 9.55am
 
First Avenue, Sudbury at 10.20am
 
Causeway Estate, Hitcham at 10.35am
 
Cullum Rd, Bury St Edmunds at 11.35am
 
and St Martins Street, Bury St Edmunds at around midday
 
In each incident two white males have called at homes claiming to be from a water company needing to check water pressure or pipes. Entry was gained to two of the properties.
 
Police would like all residents to operate a simple doorstep procedure of Locking front and back doors, stopping to think if any visitors are expected, using a door chain or bar and carefully checking any identification offered. Be extremely cautious with any callers who are insistent that they must have immediate access to your home. If you are unsure, do not let them enter your property and alert police immediately using 999 if you are suspicious

Criminal Damage - Eye

Between 27th June and 23rd July on Cranley Road, Eye offenders have stripped all the lead from the roof of an unoccupied property. The property has now suffered extensive water damage.

Norwich Men Jailed for Burglaries

Three men were sentenced on Wednesday 28th July  to a total of nine and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit burglaries across Norfolk and Suffolk.

The men were sentenced for a total of 31 burglaries.

29 year old John Storey of Ely Street, Norwich pleaded guilty to 25 offences and seven were taken into consideration and was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.  Matthew Erick Curtis, 26, of Branford Road, Norwich pleaded guilty to 15 offences and was sentenced to three years imprisonment.  51 year old Richard Woods of Bullard Road, Norwich pleaded guilty to 21 offences and was sentenced to three years in jail.

The incidents happened between June 2009 and February this year where the three offenders targeted properties mainly in rural locations.

Robbery - Hopton

Update:  Three people have been arrested today, Friday 6th August. A 26 year old male and a 17 year old female, both from the Grays area of Essex, are in custody at Grays Police Station. A 27 year old male from the Bury St Edmunds area is in custody at Bury St Edmunds Police Station. All three will be questioned today.

Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery at Hopton Post Office on Wednesday 28th July.

Officers were called at 11.12am to Thelnetham Road in Hopton where a man had entered the Post Office with a handgun and a knife. He threatened staff and was given an amount of cash before leaving the shop on foot, turning right along Thelnetham Road. No-one was injured.

The man is described as white, in his 20s, between 5 foot 10 inches and 6 feet tall and was wearing dark glasses, a grey fleece, light coloured jeans and a red baseball cap.

Officers are carrying out inquiries in the area, including searches with air support.

Distraction Burglaries

Suffolk Constabulary are appealing for residents countywide to help support and advise elderly and vulnerable members of the community following a distraction burglary in Ipswich at around 1:30pm Wednesday 7th July.
