Four young men dressed in dark clothing, wearing hats and generally
looking suspicious were seen wandering around Clay Street in the dark
at about 6pm on Sunday 26th October. They had no torches or reflective
clothing as you might expect a walker to have at that time of
night and had no obvious justification for being there - so keep your eyes peeled. If you are one of those four people
and did have justification to be there, let us know so that we're not
criminalising you unjustly.
This follows another event in the area a couple of weeks earlier where an uninvited car was found parked in the drive of Corner House (where Clay Street meets the Wickham Skeith Road) one Friday lunchtime. There was a male passenger and female driver on a mobile phone. They left the premises "with attitude" when pressed. It's hard to imagine anything other than ill-intent in a situation like this.
So, be vigilant with your own security and keep your eyes open for your neighbours. If you see / hear anything suspicious, post some comments here so that everyone knows the situation.

As someone who relies on email for both business and personal communications, I thought it might be worth highlighting a recent (and ongoing) attempt to get me to part with my bank details and take the time to show by example how to spot the fakes. Sorry if this is a case of "Granny sucking eggs" but it's very easy to fall for scams like this. Below is the text from an example email I received just yesterday...

Let's hope this page stays empty! That said, keep checking back and remember to protect your property and yourselves: keep your doors / windows / garages / cars shut / locked whilst you're not around, record serial numbers of expensive electrical equipment, use security pens to mark your property with your postcode etc etc.

As central heating oil becomes increasingly expensive, so it becomes a more tempting target for theft. Where possible, try to screen your oil tanks to make them less visible to casual snooping and if you can use a lock to further secure them then it can't help but deter opportunist theft.
