This very appropriate heading is borrowed from The Times online account of swimming successes, including two Thornham Villagers. A third  Villager has scored great academic success.

Times online reported on 9 July that the Thetford Dolphins travelled to Dereham to compete in the Norfolk County Challenge Gala over the course of two weekends, where they did exceptionally well. In particular, two competitors already known to readers of this website from the earlier article about the Swimathon 2008 again distinguished themselves.

Russell Hatton, 12, swam superbly to win gold in the 50m and 200m breaststroke and silver in the 100m. Russell also achieved bronze for the100m and 200m freestyle and 100m fly plus fourth place in the 50m freestyle.

Richard Hatton, competing for the first time, swam really well taking home two silver trophies for the 50m and 200 freestyle. Richard also claimed bronze for the 50m fly and 200m backstroke as well as finishing fifth for the 50m back and 200m breaststroke and sixth for the 100m individual medley..

On the academic front, Sophie Ellis has been awarded a First in Criminology and Psychology at the University of East Anglia. This distinction has only been achieved eleven times since the course was first offered.

Warmest congratulations and best wishes for the future to all three young Villagers!
