It seems Eye airfield is now a target for a huge incineration plant. Clearly this affects all of the local parishes, the Thornhams included. The proposed development would mean an illuminated incinerator stack nearly 100m in height, a massive increase in lorry traffic, at least 100,000 tonnes of waste burned per annum, an obvious drop in the quality of air (right next to a school too!) and a general blot on the landscape.
These are just the obvious and direct effects; factor in the impact on
local businesses, tourism, farming etc and I think it is quite clear
that this proposal needs to be scrapped NOW.
If you are in any doubts about the seriousness of this proposal, visit the councils website:
Suffolk County Council - Waste Development Framework
and follow the link to "Site 27: Eye Airfield Industrial Estate ".
Time to dust off the combat gear, dig out the grungy woolly hats / jumpers and make a noise before it's too late. They've killed off the field centre, almost killed the walks and now they want us to breathe fetid air and ship in the region's waste to burn - they must think we're an easy target for abuse!!
There will be a public meeting to raise awareness of this proposal to be held on:
Friday 12th February @ 19:30 in Eye Town Hall
