Living close to Forestry Commission-owned woods, you might be interested to know that the Forestry Commission (FC) is waiting to hear your views on the long-term role of the forests and woods it owns. In other words it is looking at what public forests are for.  For further details, follow this link.

There are always two sides to every story … and certainly the use of bird scarers attracts varied reviews depending on who you are.  If you are the farmer, you will want to use any means at your disposable to protect your crops from destruction. In fact it is estimated that approximately 10% crop yield would result without the use of deterrents such as these.  However, conversely, if like me you enjoy your sleep (particularly at 6am on a Sunday morning), noises such as these can become really irritating; particularly when you see scores of wood pigeons flying up temporarily … to return less than 10 minutes later to continue foraging.
