Keep an eye on the Thornhams diary page, which is regularly updated. It is opened from the 'Information' heading at the top of this page. A printed version is occasionally circulated with the Gnus.

A notable event in June is an open air screening in Christchurch Park of La Traviata, live from Covent Garden. It's on Tuesday 30th, and it's free!

There have been two incidents reported in the last week concerning the cattle in the meadows known as the Water Meadows or Low Meadows which stretch from  Water Lane all the way along the south side of the Wickham road.

In one incident a man was taken to hospital and in the other a fit young man with three small dogs on leads was forced to beat a very hasty retreat.

Field Centre Closure

Regarding the Field Centre Closure, I've been given this information:

"It is with great regret that the Trustees of the Thornham Field Centre have decided to close the school environmental education programme at Thornham from the end of the summer term 2009. For many years parties of school children have come to Thornham to enjoy this beautiful estate, but in the current financial climate we no longer have the resources to continue this educational work. Many thanks for all your support over the years.

This decision in no way affects Thornham Walks, the Walled Garden Horticultural Project or any other project at Thornham."

Thornham Field Centre Closure

We were shocked to hear that the Thornham Field Centre is going to close at the end of this term.

The Field Centre has built up an excellent reputation for rural and environmental education and it is very sad, not just for those people who will be losing their jobs, but for all those Norfolk and Suffolk children that would have benefited from it's resources. The next closest facility to offer anything like it is over at Melton, the cost to travel there will probably be prohibitive.

Is it too late for the decision to be reversed?
