There has been conflicting information reported to the community regarding the village green and play area land leases. Most of the factual information we have is anecdotal based on people’s recollection of events.
What we do know for certain is that the village hall was gifted to the
Thornham’s community in 1924, but that it did not include any land with
it, and that in 1985 a lease agreement was drawn up between the Thornham
Settled Estate and the Parish Meeting for the land around the
village hall.

A number of people in the village have referred to the Big Lottery as imposing ‘bureaucratic and financial burdens’ on the parish meeting. However none of these claims have ever been substantiated. Is it possible they are in fact ‘red herrings’ to divert the community from what is the burning question, which is: do we or do we not want a play area! As it happens, the whole process is very transparent, and the Community Open Spaces Grant advertises all the projects they have assisted with, please see: http://www.consultationmap.co.uk/communityspaces
