Our roadside verges have again been cut while at their most glorious. This includes Water Lane and Clay Street, where no one can argue road safety concerns!
Some targetted trimming on bends and junctions of busier roads may be
useful, but universal trimming is still applied, I suggest this is
because of outdated anxiety about neatness and tidiness. The unnecessary trimming uses fuel and other resources, blights the appearance of our roads at their most attractive time, destroys wildlife and plant
habitats, and is bad for the county's credibility where
www.greensuffolk.org is not alone in encouraging joined-up landscape
initiatives.
To compound the problem I believe that the more trimming is done, the more is needed, as the cuttings from the trimmed areas makes them over-fertile and nettle-ridden. What do you think?
